Blink Your Eyes
Face Guts is pleased to present Blink Your Eyes, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Los Angeles–based artist Abel Macias.
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 13, 6–9 PM
Sometimes the ordinary becomes unforgettable. In Blink Your Eyes, Abel Macias captures fleeting moments of daily life—flower arrangements, views from windows, plants in the park—painted as if they were mental photographs, preserved in memory.
“To blink your eyes while looking at something is like the shutter of a camera,” Macias explains. “Focus on a subject, blink your eyes, and keep that mental photo with you inside your mind’s eye.”
Rendered with sensitivity and rooted in his ongoing dialogue with Mexican folk art, Macias’ paintings explore the interplay of memory, perception, and the beauty of everyday objects. The exhibition invites viewers to consider their own moments of looking—to recognize the photographs we carry not on film, but within ourselves.
